Joan Bakewell

Joan Bakewell’s outstanding broadcasting career will be showcased on Joan Bakewell Night on Sunday 20th October on BBC Four. Starting at 7pm, Joan will talk through a number of her iconic career moments, including her 1990 interview with Nelson Mandela for Heart of the Matter at 8.40pm, her 1968 interview with artist Martin Duchamp in Late Night Lineup at 9.30pm, Joan Bakewell: Flowering in Autumn at 9.55pm and The Accidental Hero: Oskar Schindler in Heart of the Matter at 10.25pm.

Daisy McAndrew, Judi James and Simon Vigar will appear in Kate: In Her Own Words on Saturday 19th October. The programme uncovers the journey of Catherine, Princess of Wales, from an outsider to one of the most prominent members of the royal family. Watch at 9.20pm on Channel 5.

On Saturday, 12th October, Angela Rippon celebrates her 80th birthday. BBC Four is honouring this milestone with an evening of special programmes dedicated to Angela’s remarkable contributions to broadcasting.


Watch from 7pm to enjoy a retrospective of Angela’s most memorable moments on screen, including the first episode of Top Gear from 1977 presented by Angela at 7.50pm, the final of Come Dancing from 1990 at 8.30pm, Angela Rippon Meets: The Hoofers at 9.10pm, Angela Rippon Reporting: The Soap Opera Business at 10pm, Masterteam with Angela Rippon at 10.50pm, and Angela Rippon: Portrait at 11.20pm.

The One Show will be marking Angela’s career in a special programme on Friday 11th.

Greg Jenner’s new book Totally Chaotic History: Roman Britain Gets Rowdy! will be available in bookstores and online on Thursday 3rd October. The book is the second in Greg’s Totally Chaotic History series, after Totally Chaotic History: Ancient Egypt Gets Unruly!, which was published in April 2024.
