Jane was previously Radio Times’ weekly television columnist and presented a weekly Radio Times podcast.
During her time at the BBC, Jane presented the flagship Radio 4 programme Life Changing, in which she spoke to people who had lived through extraordinary events, and discovered how these moments had reshaped their lives.
Jane presented BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour for 13 years, presenting her final show at the end of 2020.
Jane has presented a wide range of radio documentaries for the BBC, including the series Summer Nights (Radio 4) and The Lost World of the Suffragettes (BBC World Service). She has also narrated documentaries on television, including Dolly Parton: In Her Own Words and Music for Channel 5 (2022).
Before she joined Radio 4, Jane co-presented Five Live’s Drive Show on weekday afternoons on BBC Radio Five Live, for which she received Sony’s News Broadcaster Award Gold Medal in 2002. Jane was the first voice on BBC Radio Five Live when it launched in March 1994, as co-presenter of the award-winning Breakfast Programme. As part of the station’s 20th anniversary Jane presented a special programme. Jane previously also presented the Sunday evening BBC 5 Live programme with Peter Allen.
Jane’s first book, Did I Say that Out Loud? with Fi Glover was published in September 2021. Jane and Fi toured theatres across Britain discussing their book.
Outside of broadcasting, Jane has chaired events, including the Stratford Upon Avon Literary Festival and the Hay Literary Festival; she also frequently makes speaking appearances at various events like Fringe by the Sea (Scotland), while also maintaining her partnership with Fi Glover – the pair continue to make appearances together.
In 2019, Jane received an honorary doctorate from the University of Birmingham.
