James Waterhouse

James Waterhouse is a foreign correspondent for BBC News, who is currently based in Paris. He’s spent the last few years reporting from the heart of Russia’s invasion as the Ukraine Correspondent, where his calm, clear and compelling reporting style connected with millions of people around the world.

The Times described James as “a household name who is one of the BBC’s biggest rising stars”. In the words of the Telegraph, his journey to foreign correspondent is an “amazing” one.

Six weeks into his Kyiv posting, James suddenly found himself on the front lines as tens of thousands of Russian troops moved in. He’s since gone on to cover the ripple effect of Moscow’s aggression across Europe, as the bloc navigates the unpredictability of Donald Trump’s White House.

James has also reported on the US-Israel war on Iran from across the Middle East.

He cut his teeth as a reporter for BBC Essex radio. He then went on to work as a reporter on Radio 1 Newsbeat, a senior reporter for BBC London News and a BBC correspondent in UK domestic news. James was also a reporter and newsreader for LBC and TalkSport.

Before his journalistic career, James was a professional rugby union player for the Rotherham Titans, Plymouth Albion and Esher from 2006 to 2011.
