Jago is an archaeologist who enthusiastically promotes his passion for past cultures and in particular their relevance to issues facing contemporary society.  Jago is the presenter of a new series, Lost Kingdoms of South America, for BBC4. He worked closely on all aspects of the development of this series, which explores the diverse ways in which small isolated communities can transform into large interconnected societies that grow to thrive in the challenging environments of South America. In 2008 Jago co-presented Channel 4’s Man On Earth. This series explored how humans have dealt with the impacts of climate change in the past and identified what lessons should be learnt for coping with modern global environmental change.

 Dr Jago Cooper is Curator of the Americas at the British Museum. He has spent the last 17 years working on a series of exciting archaeological excavations around the world. Jago originally developed his interests in Latin American archaeology and human-climate-environment dynamics whilst studying at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. He then worked on rescue excavations in and around London for the Museum of London Archaeology Service and Wessex Archaeology before returning to the Institute of Archaeology to complete his doctoral research in Cuba.  Jago has been lucky enough to work on fieldwork projects all around the world including in Australia, Barbados, Belize, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Rapa Nui, Sri Lanka and Spain.
