Jane Hill

Jane is an experienced BBC journalist who has been a supporter of the arts for 20 years. She is passionate about theatre in particular, and also presents the BBC News Channel's coverage of the BAFTA film awards. In May 2009, she narrated the European premiere of Sing for the Cure, at the Royal Festival Hall. A piece for choir and orchestra, Sing for the Cure, has been performed many times across the USA; in London it was the cornerstone of the Various Voices music festival, which is held every four years in a different European city. Jane is a Friend of numerous theatres and galleries, and has been known to turn down work if it means missing a play. She is also very interested in modern architecture.

Jane is one of the BBC's main news presenters, working across the One O'Clock News and the BBC News Channel on television, and The World Tonight on Radio 4. For television she has anchored the coverage of many rolling stories, including the 2008 US Presidential Election, the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, and Hurricane Katrina. She reported from Washington DC in the aftermath of September 11th 2001, and from Ground Zero on the first anniversary of the attacks.

Jane worked in local and national radio for 10 years before moving into television. She has a Politics degree from London University, and worked for the Democrats in the US Senate after graduation in 1991. She is a fellow of the British-American Project, and sits on its UK Executive Committee. She chairs numerous seminars and debates for BAP, and for many other large organisations. She enjoys food, wine and going to the gym, and is an Archers addict.
