Jacqui Hames is the presenter of ITV's Crime Channel (www.itvlocal.com) and is one of Britain’s best-known real life Detectives, having presented live TV appeals on the BBC flagship show Crimewatch every month for 16 yrs. After serving with the Metropolitan Police for over 25 yrs she is now seen regularly on GMTV and Sky News giving advice and commenting on news stories.

She also appears on BBC News 24, Five News and Radio 5 Live - covering topics such as the Ipswich serial murders, the disappearance of Madeline McCann and re-appearance of John Darwin. Other television appearances include LK Today, BBC Breakfast, This Morning, The Really Useful Show, Talking TV, Inside TV and a couple of song and dance performances on the BBC’s Children In Need.

Jacqui has vast experience of all types of crime investigations and social issues. Apart from Scotland Yard she has also served in across London working on many murder enquiries, investigated serial sex offenders, paedophiles, terrorists and organised crime, she has also dealt with stalkers, burglars, bullying, drug offences, child abuse, domestic violence and fraud. She was also part of the launch team for the UK’s first Crimestoppers unit at New Scotland Yard and worked at the National Crime and Operations Faculty on operations to identify serial offenders across the UK using cutting edge policing methods such as crime analysis, psychological and forensic profiling and geographic profiling.

Experienced in presenting corporate videos, she also hosted a two-day international policing conference, security seminars and has others in the pipeline. In addition she has written, produced and presented several corporate videos for the police service and presented Scotland Yard’s internal Most Wanted programme.

Jacqui regularly lectures to the Senior Detectives Course at the Metropolitan Police Crime Academy on media strategies within crime investigations and presentation skills, and had a regular letters page in Crime Confidential magazine.

Jacqui wrote her first book, Savvy: The Modern Girl's Guide to Doing It All Without Risking It All, in collaboration with Fiona Bruce, which was published on the 30th June 2008.

Jacqui Hames' Top Ten Tips

Home

1. Make sure your front door has a bolt or chain on the inside so you are protected whilst inside your house, but can still get out easily if there’s a fire.

2. If you’re unlucky enough to be burgled, have a party or re-decorate – create some new happy memories for your home.

Shopping

3. Never allow a sales assistant to take your payment card out of sight, there’s no need to these days as the pin machines are portable. You generally don’t even need to hand it to them at all.

4. When shopping on the internet check the site has full security and ‘https’ appears in the top instruction line.

Partying

5. Look after your handbag; carry a personal attack alarm, mobile (topped up and charged) and spare cash.

6. Have a contingency plan for getting home in case you get stranded.

7. Never get into an unlicensed mini cab, you wouldn’t get into any other strangers car so why do so just because he says he’s a cab driver!

Car

8. Never leave anything you would hate to lose in your car, sat navs are the latest ‘must haves’ for thieves – take it with you!

9. Avoid road rage. If you feel threatened, avoid eye contact and ignore them. If a driver gets out drive past him if it’s safe, or put the hazards lights on and reverse sounding your horn. And finally…

10. Trust your instincts, if that offer or unsolicited competitions win looks too good to be true - it probably is, if someone looks and feels dodgy – they probably are!
