Carol and I started in broadcasting on the very same day in 1973 when our employer, LBC, hit the airwaves as the first legal commercial radio station in Britain. She had an infectious laugh, an irreverent giggle, and an ever present grasp of a good story.

After only a few months at LBC the place went bust and most of us were sacked. She and I found ourselves fronting London at One - a direct competitor of The World at One. Robert is ITN's European Correspondent for ITV News and was previously their Washington Correspondent. He assumed the role at the start of 2002 after five years as ITN's Diplomatic & Foreign Affairs Editor. From 1991 to 1996 he was ITN's Middle East Correspondent and he won the "International News Prize" at the 1996 Royal Television Society Journalism Awards for his reporting that year of the fighting on the West Bank between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers.

 

Television and radio presenter Juliet Morris is a well-known face in the world of broadcasting. Irek Mukhamedov OBE is one of the world's most famous male dancers.
He made his debut with The Bolshoi Company in 1981 and became their leading male dancer touring the world with the company. He joined the Royal Ballet in June 1990 where he has danced hundreds of different ballets, including many that were specifically created for him by the world's top choreographers.

Sir David Nicholas joined ITN in 1960. In 1963 he became the Deputy Editor and was Editor and Chief Executive between 1977 and 1989. During this time he started News at Ten in 1967, News at One in 1972, Channel 4 News in 1982 and ITN's service to foreign broadcasters and airlines, World News, in 1986. Sir David produced ITN's special news events, general election coverage, US Presidential elections, the Apollo Moon Exploration programmes, budget day programmes and royal events during his career at ITN.

 

John Julius Norwich has written histories of Venice, the Byzantine Empire, Norman Sicily and the Mediterranean, together with books on Shakespeare's history plays, music and architecture. He has also written two travel books, on Mount Athos and the Sahara, and has lectured - on all these and several other subjects - in Europe, North America and Australia. He has been Chairman of Colnaghi - the oldest fine art dealers in London, of the Venice in Peril Fund and of the World Monuments Fund in Britain, and has served on the Executive Committee of the National Trust and the Board of the English National Opera. He also produces an annual anthology, A Christmas Cracker, and has twice performed for a week in small London theatres, interspersing readings from these anthologies with songs to the piano.
