Tribute to Carol Barnes (1944- 2008)

 by

Jon Snow

Carol and I started in broadcasting on the very same day in 1973 when our employer, LBC, hit the airwaves as the first legal commercial radio station in Britain. She had an infectious laugh, an irreverent giggle, and an ever present grasp of a good story.

After only a few months at LBC the place went bust and most of us were sacked. She and I found ourselves fronting London at One - a direct competitor of The World at One. We had endless fun preparing every show, sitting at the same desk, amazed by the people prepared to join us on it. We could not believe that famous Westminster pols would deign to be interviewed by us.  Click here for more
